Firm Profile

At Schwartzer & McPherson, our primary practice involves all aspects of business bankruptcies. Our skilled lawyers are highly experienced in dealing with complex Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases. The firm's practice runs the gamut from prepetition planning and creating prepackaged plans to filing petitions, representing creditors' committees, litigating adversary proceedings, handling discharge objections, managing postpetition credit needs, and drafting effective reorganization plans. In addition, we have a strong background in handling state receiverships, from representing receivers to acting as a receiver ourselves.

The 2005 bankruptcy law revisions made substantial changes in the administration of Chapter 11 cases, and of Chapter 7 cases to a lesser extent. Schwartzer & McPherson has been at the forefront in adapting to those changes and applying them effectively to our clients' cases.  The recent explosion in the use of financial derivatives and the consequent effects has added new dynamics and complexity to the business reorganization process. Schwartzer & McPherson's extensive experience in business bankruptcy practice gives us the ability to adapt to those types of complexities and manage them to our clients' advantage in an efficient and effective manner.

As a large part of the Nevada economy, the gaming and hospitality industries present unique challenges to bankruptcy counsel.  Specialized experience can be invaluable in the complex fast-paced practice of bankruptcy law, and bankruptcies involving casinos are no different. The lawyers at Schwartzer & McPherson have worked on multiple bankruptcy cases involving casinos, and they are skilled in handling the specialized issues that those cases present.

A bankruptcy and business-centered practice invariably involves civil litigation, and Schwartzer & McPherson's civil litigation practice is extensive. Our lawyers are experienced in civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels, in both state and federal court. We take an aggressive, but reasoned, approach to civil litigation, and we know when to try cases and when to settle them. Civil litigation often requires the ability to manage a huge amount of information and documentation, and we employ the best available office technology to handle the avalanche of material that complicated civil cases generate.
